Care
Awling belts are designed to age gracefully with minimal intervention. Regular wear naturally conditions the leather as oils from the skin nourish the strap, while the movement of the buckle helps keep the surface clean and polished.
If your belt has been unworn for some time, the brass may mellow and the leather may appear slightly dull. A gentle polish with a soft cloth will restore the finish.
A pale bloom on the leather grain is simply natural wax returning to the surface — a hallmark of a well-tanned hide. A quick buff will remove it and enrich the tone.
While not essential, occasional care will enhance the belt’s character and longevity.
Leather Strap
- Use a natural, non-coloured leather balm.
- Apply sparingly, especially on the first use.
- If unsure, test a small area near the buckle (this section is hidden when worn).
- Apply with a soft cloth in light, circular motions; allow a few minutes to absorb, then gently polish.
Brass Buckle
- Avoid chemical metal polishes, as they can strip the brass of its natural patina.
- Instead, buff with a soft cloth; a touch of lemon juice may be used if a brighter sheen is preferred.
If you’d like guidance tailored to your belt, our team is always happy to help. With simple, occasional care, your Awling belt will continue to develop richness and character over a lifetime of use.
Repairs
Awling belts are crafted to be worn for many years. Over time, the leather will develop a deeper patina and gently mould to your body — a natural result of the high-quality materials and
craftsmanship involved. Each belt is handmade in the UK by skilled artisans, with close attention paid to every detail.
Although extremely uncommon, if something isn’t quite right with your belt, during normal use, please contact us at info@awling.com and we will resolve it promptly.
If your belt is damaged through wear or misuse, we are still here to help. We can arrange a repair through our UK workshop and provide guidance on the process, along with an estimate for the work required.
With proper care and occasional maintenance, your Awling belt will deepen in character and accompany you for a lifetime.
